Introduction to Vanapsa

Ayurvedic properties and effects

Vanapsa is bitter, pungent, hot, mild, astringent, antiphlegmatic, expectorant, beneficial for the skin, extractive and tonic. It is beneficial in cold fever, cough and shortness of breath. Its rhizome is beneficial in dry catarrh, rheumatism arising from minor joints, fever, skin disorders, oral mucosal inflammation, nervous disorders, headache and insomnia. Its properties are lice-killing, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-purulent, laxative, central nervous system depressant, painkiller, purifier, diaphoretic, diuretic, laxative, softening, expectorant, sedative, hypotensive and muscle relaxant. Its root is purgative, antipyretic, tonic, expectorant, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and laxative. Its flowers are emollient and pain reliever. The volatile oil obtained from its flowers is antimicrobial, sedative and sedative. It exhibits anti-fungal and antibacterial activity.

Medicinal use quantity and method

Headache - Drinking 5 ml of Banafsa flower essence relieves headache.
Grind the flowers of Shirorog-Vanafsa with water and mix it with pure sesame oil to prove it. Applying this oil on hair stops hair fall and massaging this oil on the chest provides relief in breathing and cough.
Eye disorders: Grinding Banafsa flowers and applying it on the head relieves eye pain, redness and burning sensation caused by heat.
Swelling of the throat - Soaking 5-10 grams of Vanafsa flowers in 200 ml of water, crushing it and then drinking it helps in relieving swelling of the throat and burning sensation in the stomach.
Bronchitis- Consuming 2-4 grams of Vanafsa flower powder mixed with equal parts ginger juice and honey is beneficial in catarrh (common cold), chest disorders, bronchiolitis and breathing (asthma).
Consuming 15-20 ml decoction of Vanafsa flowers provides relief in chronic bronchitis, catarrh (common cold), whooping cough, dyspnea and migraine.
Kaas (cough) - Consuming Vanafsa flower powder is beneficial in kaas (cough), tonsillitis, hoarseness and childhood diseases.
Catarrh - Mixing 1 gram of Vanafsa powder and 500 mg of black pepper powder in 1 glass of lukewarm milk and drinking it before sleeping at night is beneficial in catarrh.
Mixing black pepper powder (2 grams) in Vanafsa Panchang (2 grams), grinding it in ginger juice and making 250 mg tablets and taking it in the morning and evening is beneficial in cold and cough.
Cough disorders- Consuming 2-4 grams Vanafsa flower powder mixed with Sambhag sugar candy helps in relieving cough disorders.
Colic (stomach ache) – Its oil is used for the treatment of colic (stomach ache) and kaas (cough).
Leprosy - By making fine powder of Vanafsa flowers and adding equal amount of sugar to it and consuming it with lukewarm water in the quantity of 2-4 grams, headache and leprosy go away.
Stomach disorders- Gulkand is prepared by mixing 60 grams of sugar in 20 grams of Vanafsa flowers, crushing it with hands and keeping it in sunlight for 7 days. Consuming 2-4 grams of this Gulkand every day provides relief in stomach and intestinal disorders and purifies the brain.
Raktarsh - Consuming 10-20 ml Vanafsa Panchang decoction mixed with Samabhag Drakshasava helps in stopping the blood coming out in Raktarsh.
It is beneficial to wash the boil by preparing decoction of Vanafsa.
Epilepsy - Making decoction of Vanafsa and drinking it in quantity of 10-20 ml is beneficial in epilepsy.
Taking Nasya of Siddha oil from Vanafsa flowers is beneficial in epilepsy.
Fever: Making decoction of sugar candy, fennel, grapes and vanafsha and consuming it in 10-20 ml quantity is beneficial in fever.
Mixing yaw flour in Vanafsa decoction and applying it on the inflamed area helps in reducing inflammation.
The sweet essence prepared from Vanafsha flowers is used as an expectorant in children and it also reduces the respiratory irritation caused due to catarrh in children.

Usage: Flowers and leaves.

Quantity: decoction 10-30 ml. Font 15-20 ml or as per doctor's advice.

Special: Excessive use of Vanafsa causes restlessness and vomiting.
