It is found all over India, mainly in Punjab and Jhelum areas, on roadsides and fallow lands. Because its flower stem is similar to the trunk of an elephant, it is called Hastishundhi. It is a 30-45 cm high, straight, branched, hairy, rainy season herb. Its branches are as thick and hairy as the fingers of the hand. Clusters of white flowers appear on the ends of its branches. The flower stalks are long and curved at the front like the trunk of an elephant. Its root goes deep into the ground and is brown in colour.
Benefits of elephant root
Hastishundī is bitter, hot and a fever reducer. It is an astringent, a febrifuge, a diuretic, an expectorant, an expectorant, a febrifuge, an abortive, a pain reliever and an enhancer of stomach activity. Heliotrin obtained from this has inhibitory effect in test tube test and antibacterial effect is visible in the extract.
