Evergreen or Sadafuli is a small shrub that bears purple, pink or white flowers throughout the year and is therefore called "evergreen". Originally called "periwinkle" in English, Catharanthus roseus originated in Madagascar. This ornamental plant is cultivated throughout tropical and subtropical regions. About 12 species have been identified, two of which are popular ground covers. All species bear a single flower and the leaves are opposite. When the flowers are plucked, milky juice comes out from them. The flowers bloom in March or April. The Alba variety has white flowers, Atropurpurea has purple flowers, and Alboplena has white flowers.
